A superb Japanese Arita blue and white vase encompassing the design motifs of the Aesthetic Movement which were incorporated into British textiles and other related decorative arts of the 1880s.
The vase is enameled in beautiful gradients of blue with 4 main reserves featuring a peacock in two and a crouching mythical creature in the others - all enveloped with intersecting geometric devices. The flaring trumpet mouth rim is painted depicting scrolls and flowers.
The vase is quite large standing 24 1/2". It is unmarked and dates to c. 1880.
