Japanese Porcelain Umbrella Stand

A Japanese porcelain umbrella stand painted in the Imari palette dating to about the 3d quarter 19th century. This impressive stand has 2 reserves featuring a bird in flight headed toward one perched on a rock. Flowers and trees surround. Above and below the reserves are cartouches. Between the reserves are intricate scrolling foliate vines on burnt red ground, while a blue ground supports dark yellow vines with 2 long blooming vines.

The overall condition is excellent, with a very occasional small manufacturing defect - something to be expected given the size of the porcelain. There are age discolorations visible on the white ground.

This umbrella stand has above average decoration and subject matter, giving this umbrella stand special appeal.
